Before launching banknbox, Mahmoud built an extensive career across leading organizations in the banking and digital payments sector, gaining expertise in acquiring, payment processing, and financial technology strategy.

He held leadership roles at OPay, where he served as VP of Acquiring Business for the MENA region, overseeing merchant acceptance strategies and payment infrastructure expansion.

Prior to that, he was Head of Acceptance & Acquiring at Fawry, one of Egypt’s largest digital payment networks, where he led initiatives that expanded merchant payment acceptance and strengthened the company’s acquiring ecosystem.

His regional roles extended significantly beyond Egypt through his tenure at Global Payment Services (GPS) and S2M, where he managed cross-border sales operations and delivered hands-on support to financial institutions implementing modern payment technologies across multiple MENA markets. At GPS, Mahmoud was actively involved in regional business development, working across markets including Morocco, where he engaged directly with local financial institutions to drive payment infrastructure adoption. His role at S2M carried even broader regional responsibility, encompassing his direct contribution to the setup and implementation of S2M’s operations in Bahrain — a milestone deployment that required coordinating technical integration, operational readiness, and stakeholder alignment across borders. These assignments reinforced his reputation as a trusted expert in cross-border payment deployments and regional fintech expansion.

In addition, Mahmoud served as Director of Acceptance & Acquiring at AMAN Holding, further strengthening his expertise in merchant payments and financial services infrastructure.

As an early member of Fawry, Bassem was instrumental in managing operations during the company’s early growth phase for over two years. Bassem Mahmoud holds a degree in Information Systems from Ain Shams University, where he studied at the Faculty of Computer and Information Sciences.
