Building the Infrastructure Behind Saudi Arabia’s Digital Economy

For Abdullah Aldahmashi, leadership has evolved from understanding technology to leading businesses and operations and ultimately shaping the infrastructure supporting an increasingly connected, AI-driven economy. As Chief Operations Officer at center3, an stc Group subsidiary, he oversees data centers, connectivity infrastructure, service delivery, operational excellence, and critical infrastructure operations.

From Engineering to Executive Leadership

Abdullah began his career with an electrical engineering foundation from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, later complementing it with an MBA from Al Yamamah University, graduating with First Honors. His engineering background developed a structured approach to complex problems, while business education broadened his perspective on strategy, economics, and value creation.

His career within stc Group exposed him to mission-critical communications, 4G and 5G networks, telco cloud, virtualization, and the transition toward software-driven infrastructure. Over time, he expanded beyond technical responsibilities into wholesale, business operations, infrastructure, and executive leadership.

The Journey of center3

A defining chapter came with the establishment of center3, which brought together strategic digital infrastructure assets, including data centers, submarine cables, and international connectivity, into a platform with ambitions beyond the traditional telecommunications model.

Abdullah was closely involved during this formative period, supporting the migration of assets into the new entity, establishing the operating model between center3 and stc, and building the operational capabilities the organization required, all while the business had to grow.

The experience reinforced an important principle. Building an organization and operating it cannot be treated as sequential activities. Transformation happens while customers are being served, infrastructure is being operated, and commitments are being made. Leaders have to build the aircraft while flying it, without compromising the reliability critical infrastructure demands.

Connecting Infrastructure with the AI Economy

Abdullah’s move from connectivity into data centers expanded his operational perspective. Data centers bring together power, cooling, capacity, energy efficiency, resilience, and availability to support increasingly demanding cloud and AI workloads.

Since becoming Chief Operations Officer in March 2025, he has focused on an end-to-end approach in which infrastructure design, service commitments, capacity planning, and operational delivery remain closely connected.

His broader vision reflects the changing role of Saudi Arabia in the global digital landscape. With growing AI and cloud demand, the Kingdom has an opportunity to become a regional infrastructure hub supported by its geographic position, investment capacity, connectivity networks, and digital ambitions.

Leadership Through Ownership

A central principle in Abdullah’s leadership is ownership beyond organizational boundaries. Rather than asking who owns an issue, he emphasizes understanding what needs to happen for the organization to succeed.

For him, leadership at scale is also about building capable teams that can solve complex problems independently. Clear outcomes, empowered people, accountability, and a culture of continuous development form the foundation of sustainable performance.
