Bridging Markets: Hong Kong and Central Asia Forge New Technology Corridor

News10 hours ago

Hong Kong’s Cyberport is deepening its engagement with Central Asia to create a unified bridge for startups seeking international growth, marking a shift from symbolic cooperation to targeted, results-oriented partnerships. By connecting Cyberport’s established financial and technology ecosystem with the growing hubs in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, the initiative aims to facilitate talent flow, investment, and market access for firms operating across both regions.

Strategic Alignment Across Borders

The collaboration follows high-level engagements during 2026, where Cyberport formalized cooperation with Astana Hub and IT Park Uzbekistan. These partnerships are built on a reciprocal model: Cyberport provides access to its government-backed infrastructure-which hosts over 2,400 companies and 10 unicorns-while Central Asian partners offer a strategic entry point into their interconnected regional markets. Rather than establishing physical offices in every jurisdiction, Cyberport is prioritising relationships with local organizations to maintain agility and build effective growth pathways.

Reframing Regional Cooperation

For Shakhzod Narzullaev, head of product-market fit at IT Park Uzbekistan, the goal is to shift the narrative from national competition to regional integration. Under the Central Asian Innovation Hubs initiative, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are increasingly presenting a unified front at international forums to increase global visibility. This cooperative stance extends to shared physical spaces, such as a joint hub in China designed to help founders connect with local commerce networks. Narzullaev is now championing a proposed Global Growth Alliance-a network of technology parks and investors intended to produce measurable outcomes, with a first global summit planned in Uzbekistan for May 2027.

Scaling AI and Financial Innovation

Within the Hong Kong ecosystem, the focus has shifted toward the integration of AI into core business processes. Cyberport is moving beyond experimental use cases, treating AI adoption as an operational imperative. This shift is accompanied by a strong emphasis on governance, cybersecurity, and the democratization of technology through initiatives designed to reach students and wider community groups. As these hubs collaborate, they are also challenging conventional funding paths. Narzullaev suggests that many early-stage ventures seeking capital between $500,000 and $5 million may find more immediate opportunities within the emerging Central Asian venture landscape, creating a viable foundation for companies to scale from regional players to global entities.
