Glauber Mota: Building the Next Chapter of Digital Banking in Brazil

Glauber Mota’s career sits at an increasingly important intersection in financial services: the meeting point between traditional banking discipline and digital innovation. As Chief Executive Officer of Revolut Brazil, he is responsible for leading the company’s expansion in one of Latin America’s most significant financial markets, bringing the proposition of a global financial superapp into the Brazilian market.

The role draws on a career that has moved across risk management, treasury, finance, operations, asset management and general management. Before joining Revolut, Mota spent eight years at BTG Pactual, where he held senior executive positions across its wholesale bank, private banking business in Switzerland and digital retail operation in Brazil.

His career reflects a broader shift in financial leadership: digital businesses still depend on the disciplines that have always underpinned sound banking.

From Financial Discipline to Digital Leadership

Mota’s professional background began in quantitative finance and asset management before expanding into risk management, ALM treasury, finance, FP&A and operations. His experience has spanned Brazil, the United States, England, Portugal and Switzerland, giving him exposure to financial institutions and operating environments across several markets.

That breadth is significant in the context of digital banking. Technology may change how customers interact with financial services, but the underlying requirements around risk, capital, liquidity, financial planning and operational efficiency remain fundamental.

Mota’s progression therefore has not been a departure from banking in favour of technology. It has been an expansion of banking expertise into an environment where technology increasingly shapes the customer experience and operating model.

His earlier roles included quantitative analysis at Itaú Unibanco, experience at Itaú BBA in Lisbon, and work in asset management. He later moved into technology and financial systems with SunGard Financial Systems before taking on increasingly senior banking responsibilities.

Experience Across the Banking Value Chain

One of the defining characteristics of Mota’s career is the range of functions through which he has developed his expertise.

His professional experience includes market and credit risk, derivatives, treasury, financial planning, operations and general management. At Itaú Unibanco, he progressed from Senior Quantitative Analyst to Vice President, while his time at BTG Pactual ultimately saw him become an Associate Partner.
This matters because financial technology businesses operate across many of these same disciplines simultaneously. A digital banking proposition is not simply a technology product. It requires financial architecture, risk controls, operational resilience, regulatory understanding and a clear approach to customer delivery.

Mota’s background provides experience across these different dimensions, while his more recent roles have increasingly placed him closer to the challenge of building and managing financial businesses.

From Traditional Banking to Digital Retail

His move within BTG Pactual included senior leadership in its digital retail operation in Brazil. Before that, his experience had included senior responsibilities across the wholesale bank and the private banking business in Switzerland.

That progression placed him at the intersection of established banking infrastructure and the emerging expectations of digitally oriented customers.

It also provided an operating perspective that extends beyond a single financial function. The movement from quantitative and risk-oriented roles into broader executive leadership suggests an evolution from analysing individual components of financial businesses towards managing the wider system in which those components operate.

For a digital banking executive, that distinction is important. Technology can accelerate delivery, but executive leadership still requires understanding how decisions affect risk, economics, operations and customers at the same time.

Leading Revolut Brazil

Since 2022, Mota has served as Chief Executive Officer of Revolut Brazil in São Paulo. The company’s stated ambition in the profile is to bring its global financial superapp proposition to Brazil, while Mota is described as leading Revolut’s international expansion in the country.
This represents a different kind of leadership challenge from managing a conventional banking function.

Expansion requires translating a broader business proposition into a specific market while operating within that market’s financial and institutional environment. The CEO must therefore connect international strategy with local execution, balancing the characteristics of the parent business with the realities of customers, regulation, competition and financial infrastructure in Brazil.

Mota’s previous experience across international banking environments gives this responsibility a clear context. His career has included work in Brazil, Portugal and Switzerland, alongside professional exposure to the United States and England.

The challenge is not simply to make banking digital. It is to build digital banking with the institutional discipline customers expect from financial services.

A Broader Role in Brazil’s Financial Ecosystem

Mota’s involvement extends beyond his executive position at Revolut. Since March 2026, he has also served as a Board Member of ABIPAG, the Brazilian Association of Payment Institutions, an organisation formed by payment and financial institutions operating in the digital payments industry.

The position places him within a wider industry environment concerned with the development of digital payments and financial services in Brazil.

It also reflects a professional trajectory that has increasingly moved from specialist financial roles towards participation in the broader development of the financial ecosystem. His profile identifies financial technology, digital innovation and venture capital among his professional interests, alongside his executive responsibilities.

The Technical Foundation Behind the Executive

Mota’s academic background is unusually quantitative for a contemporary digital banking executive. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from the Instituto Militar de Engenharia and a Master of Science in Mathematical Methods Applied in Finance from IMPA.

He subsequently completed a Certificate in Business Excellence at Columbia Business School and the General Management Program at Harvard Business School.

The combination brings together engineering, mathematical finance and executive education. Rather than representing separate stages of a career, these disciplines help explain the breadth of his professional path, from quantitative analysis and risk through to strategy, operations and general management.

Recognition by The CEO Network

Glauber Mota represents a generation of financial executives operating at a point where the boundaries between banking and technology are becoming increasingly difficult to separate.

His career has developed across the technical and operational foundations of finance before progressing into executive leadership within digital banking. Today, his focus is the Brazilian market and Revolut’s expansion within it, supported by experience gained across multiple financial institutions, functions and international markets.

For The CEO Network, his story is relevant not simply because it is a fintech story, but because it illustrates how the leadership requirements of financial services are evolving. Digital transformation does not eliminate the fundamentals of banking. It places them inside faster, more technology-led businesses and demands executives capable of understanding both sides.

Mota’s career provides a clear example of that convergence, combining quantitative foundations, banking experience, international exposure and digital business leadership as he works to shape Revolut’s presence in Brazil.
