Strong organisations are not built on financial performance alone. They are built on the governance, accountability and disciplined decision-making that allow performance to endure.
That principle sits at the heart of Mohammed A. AlAssaf’s professional journey.
As Chief Financial Officer of SAMI Group, he oversees financial strategy, governance and performance while supporting the Group’s long-term growth ambitions. His responsibilities also extend across boards and audit committees, giving him a broad view of how financial discipline can strengthen strategic decision-making across an organisation.
A CFO’s role is often associated with numbers, but at the highest level, finance becomes a framework for understanding how an organisation should move forward.
Mohammed’s current responsibilities at SAMI reflect precisely that wider perspective. Alongside financial strategy and performance, he contributes to governance through board positions and committee leadership across affiliated companies.
This combination places financial insight alongside strategic oversight, creating a role that reaches far beyond reporting results.
“Financial discipline creates the confidence from which ambitious decisions can be made.”
Mohammed’s professional journey has developed across finance, telecommunications, technology and corporate leadership.
Before joining SAMI as Group CFO in July 2025, he served as Vice President of Business Finance at stc from 2021 to 2025. Earlier, he was Chief Financial Officer of Kuwait Telecommunication Company-stc and General Manager of Business Finance at Saudi Telecom Company.
These roles placed him close to commercial performance and strategic decision-making within major telecommunications organisations.
His experience was not limited to financial reporting. It extended into business finance, forecasting, corporate leadership and board-level responsibilities.
One of the strongest themes in Mohammed’s career is the breadth of his governance experience.
He currently serves on the boards of several SAMI-affiliated companies, including SAMI Land, SAMI MBDA and SAMI GDLS. He is Vice Chairman and Audit Committee Member at Alsalam Aerospace Industries, while also serving as Head of the Audit Committee at SAMI Autonomous.
His board and committee responsibilities also extend beyond SAMI. He serves on the board of United Insurance Company-related organisations and has held board and audit committee positions across technology, healthcare, telecommunications and other sectors.
This breadth demonstrates an important dimension of financial leadership: the ability to look beyond one business unit and consider how governance, risk, performance and strategy connect across an organisation.
Long before his current executive responsibilities, Mohammed developed his professional foundation at Deloitte, where he worked from 1996 to 2004 in Riyadh and McLean, USA.
That early experience in professional services provided a foundation in financial discipline and assurance before his career moved into progressively broader corporate finance and leadership roles.
He later became Director of Finance at Enterprise Unit and Director of Financial Planning & Forecasting at STC, before moving into CFO and CEO-level responsibilities.
The progression reflects a career in which technical financial knowledge gradually expanded into broader organisational responsibility.
“Good governance is not a formality. It is what gives strategy credibility.”
Mohammed’s experience has also included executive leadership outside traditional CFO roles.
From 2010 to 2014, he served as CEO of JAWA Communication & Information Technologies, a subsidiary of MIC Group, and later became General Manager of Business Finance at Saudi Telecom Company.
He also served as CFO of stc Bahrain and Chief Financial Officer of Kuwait Telecommunication Company-stc.
These experiences brought him closer to the operational and commercial realities of running businesses, complementing his financial expertise with direct leadership responsibility.
Today, Mohammed’s professional responsibilities extend across a wide portfolio of organisations and committees.
His current and recent board roles include positions involving audit committees, investment oversight and nomination and remuneration responsibilities. He has also contributed to organisations in areas including insurance, healthcare, technology, telecommunications and real estate.
The range is significant because governance becomes increasingly complex as organisations grow.
Effective oversight requires the ability to understand financial performance while also considering the broader strategic and organisational context in which decisions are made.
Mohammed’s academic and professional credentials reinforce the foundation of his career.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from King Saud University and is a Certified Public Accountant through the Saudi Organization for Certified Public Accountants. He is also a member of the American Management Association and the Association of Accountants and Financial Professionals.
His education and professional qualifications have provided a strong technical foundation, while decades of corporate and board experience have expanded that foundation into executive leadership.
What makes Mohammed’s journey particularly compelling is the evolution of finance from a professional speciality into a broader leadership discipline.
At SAMI, his responsibilities combine financial strategy, governance and performance with board and committee responsibilities across affiliated companies.
That places him in a position where financial decisions are closely connected to long-term organisational direction.
It is an important role in any large organisation, particularly one operating across a network of affiliated businesses where consistency in governance and strategic thinking can have a significant influence on sustainable growth.
“The real value of financial leadership is not only what it protects, but what it enables.”
Mohammed A. AlAssaf deserves recognition for a career that demonstrates how financial expertise can develop into broad strategic and governance leadership.
From his early professional foundation at Deloitte to senior finance roles at STC and stc, executive leadership at JAWA and CFO responsibilities across telecommunications, and now Group CFO leadership at SAMI, his journey has consistently expanded the scope of his contribution.
His extensive board and audit committee responsibilities add another dimension, placing financial insight at the heart of governance and strategic oversight across multiple organisations.
Today, his role at SAMI brings these experiences together, with responsibility for financial strategy, governance and performance while supporting the Group’s long-term ambitions.
His story is ultimately about more than finance. It is about creating the structures, discipline and confidence that allow organisations to make stronger decisions and pursue growth with greater clarity.
