Hatim Jamal: From Strategic Finance to Transformational Leadership in Saudi Healthcare

The most consequential leaders are often those who learn to see beyond a single function.

Finance can explain performance. Strategy can define direction. Operations can turn plans into reality. But when these disciplines are brought together, leadership gains a different kind of power: the ability to understand an organisation as a whole and make decisions that connect ambition with execution.

That intersection has shaped Hatim Jamal’s journey.

Today, as Chief Executive Officer of Bupa CareConnect, he brings together experience in healthcare, finance, strategy, consulting, consumer brands and national development. His progression reflects a career built not around one narrow discipline, but around understanding how organisations grow, adapt and create lasting value.

A New Chapter in Healthcare Leadership

In May 2026, Hatim Jamal became CEO of Bupa CareConnect in Jeddah, following more than five years at Bupa Arabia in senior financial and strategic roles.

Before becoming CEO, he served as Chief Financial & Strategy Officer from January 2024 to April 2026 and Senior Director of Commercial Finance from March 2021 to December 2023.

This progression from commercial finance and strategy into executive leadership is significant because it reflects a broader understanding of how organisations operate.

The modern CEO must understand numbers, but also people, markets, customers, partnerships and the decisions that connect them. Hatim’s career has given him exposure to each of these dimensions.

“The strongest strategies are the ones that can survive contact with reality.”

Where Strategy Meets Execution

Long before his current role, Hatim worked at Strategic Gears, where his responsibilities placed him close to some of Saudi Arabia’s most significant economic and organisational initiatives.

As a Partner from 2017 to 2021, he led a Build, Operate and Transfer project for the Permanent Working Team within the Ministry of Finance responsible for reviewing and financing Vision 2030 initiatives. He also led economic impact assessments examining labour market policies and their effects on consumption, imports and labour wages for the Ministry of Economy and Planning.

His work extended into government procurement, where he led the team responsible for launching the Strategic Procurement Unit. The project involved governance, procurement law and regulations, a procurement training academy, business requirements for the Etimad online procurement system and change management for the launch of the new procurement law across 650 entities.

These experiences placed strategy in its most demanding environment: where ideas must eventually become systems, policies and decisions.

Building Systems That Can Last

Some of Hatim’s most notable work has involved building frameworks rather than simply producing recommendations.

At Strategic Gears, he developed strategies for clients ranging from new entities to product marketing and pricing. He also led the product development of the Saudi Premium Residency programme, which was approved and launched in 2019.

His work included organisation excellence projects involving governance, change management, policies and procedures, organisational structures and job descriptions.

This breadth matters.

It suggests an approach to strategy that does not end when a presentation is delivered. The real test is whether an organisation has the structures, capabilities and clarity required to put the strategy into practice.

“Strategy becomes valuable when it gives people a clearer way to act.”

A Commercial Mindset Shaped at P&G

Hatim’s understanding of commercial performance was further developed during a substantial chapter at Procter & Gamble.

His roles covered finance, strategy, brand management and innovation across the Arabian Peninsula and the India, Middle East and Africa region. He worked with major consumer brands including Ariel, Tide, Downy, Pampers, Always, Fairy and Febreze.

As Senior Financial Analyst for Baby Care, Feminine Care and Home Care, he led profit gap-closing plans and strategic revenue management analysis. His work included pricing analysis, promotional budget optimisation and financial planning for the launch of Febreze in the Arabian Peninsula.

Later, as Fabric Care Design Senior Financial Analyst in Geneva, he assessed the financial feasibility of future innovations and initiatives across the portfolio, led planning for category expansion and evaluated the return on investments in product quality, promotions, marketing and manufacturing facilities.

This was finance with a commercial purpose.

The numbers were not treated as an endpoint. They were used to understand where investment could create growth and where strategic choices could strengthen a business.

From Financial Precision to Brand Thinking

An especially interesting dimension of Hatim’s P&G experience came when he moved into brand management.

As Assistant Brand Manager for Tide and Bonux across India, the Middle East and Africa, he designed and executed marketing and communications plans, led Tide’s form conversion strategy from powder to liquid and worked on innovation across branding, products and packaging.

He also established digital and e-commerce presence for Tide and Bonux across multiple countries in the region.

The transition reveals something important about his development. His career did not remain confined to financial analysis. It expanded into understanding customers, brands, innovation and the commercial decisions that influence market performance.

That combination of financial discipline and commercial thinking would become an important foundation for the leadership responsibilities that followed.

Learning to Think at National Scale

Hatim’s work at Strategic Gears added another layer to that experience.

The projects he led addressed national programmes, labour markets, government procurement, organisational excellence and economic impact. His responsibilities required him to consider not just the performance of an individual business, but how policies, institutions and systems could influence wider outcomes.

His involvement in the Saudi Premium Residency programme is one example of this broader perspective. He led its product development before it was approved and launched in 2019.

Other assignments included labour market programmes, nationalisation challenges and opportunities, the informal economy, governance and organisational design.

Together, these experiences created a professional perspective that crosses the boundaries between commercial strategy and institutional development.

The Discipline Behind the Decisions

Hatim’s early career at P&G was grounded in financial forecasting, tax, budgeting and financial statement review.

As Arabian Peninsula Book Profit, Cash Flow Forecaster and Saudi Tax Manager, he led quarterly profit and cash forecasting, achieving reported accuracy of 98% and 100% for two consecutive years. He also implemented a tax reimbursement process that resulted in $1 million in annual savings and led three external tax audits conducted by the Department of Zakat and Income Tax.

Earlier, he worked on competitive analysis, channel profitability and spending structures across different categories.

These responsibilities built a foundation in precision. Later roles expanded that foundation into strategy, commercial leadership and organisational transformation.

The progression is revealing: strong executive judgement often begins with learning to understand the details.

“Leadership at scale begins with respect for the details that shape every decision.”

Preparing for Leadership Through Continuous Growth

Hatim’s academic journey mirrors the evolution of his professional responsibilities.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals and an Executive MBA from London Business School, completed in 2024.

The combination reflects two complementary dimensions of his career. Finance provided the analytical foundation, while executive management education added another layer of strategic and leadership perspective.

His professional path has followed a similar progression, moving from financial analysis to commercial finance, brand management, consulting, strategy and ultimately executive leadership.

A Broader Definition of Business Value

Hatim Jamal’s journey offers a compelling lesson about modern leadership: business value is rarely created by one discipline alone.

His experience spans financial planning and forecasting, commercial strategy, brand development, government transformation, procurement, organisational excellence and healthcare leadership.

Each chapter has added another perspective.

Finance taught precision. Brand management introduced the customer and market lens. Consulting brought exposure to national and organisational transformation. Senior leadership at Bupa Arabia brought these capabilities closer together.

Now, as CEO of Bupa CareConnect, those experiences converge in an executive role within healthcare.

Recognition by The CEO Network

Hatim Jamal deserves recognition for a career that has steadily expanded from financial expertise into broader strategic and organisational leadership.

His contribution has reached across consumer businesses, government initiatives, national programmes and healthcare, with work that has included the development of strategies, operating models, procurement structures, commercial plans, product launches and organisational frameworks.

What makes his journey particularly compelling is the connection between its different chapters. The financial discipline of his early career did not remain separate from strategy. Strategy did not remain separate from execution. Commercial thinking did not remain separate from leadership.

Each experience became part of a larger professional perspective.

Today, as CEO of Bupa CareConnect, Hatim stands at the latest stage of that journey, carrying forward an approach shaped by analytical rigour, commercial understanding and experience with complex transformation.

His story is a reminder that exceptional leadership is rarely built in a single leap. It is developed through years of learning how businesses work, how institutions change and how thoughtful decisions can turn ambition into something real.
