Leading a healthcare organisation requires more than medical expertise. It demands the ability to build capable clinical teams, maintain patient safety, strengthen operational performance and ensure that institutional growth is supported by consistent standards of care.

For Dr. Ayman Alkhadra, these responsibilities have shaped a career spanning more than three decades across cardiology, hospital management, medical education and national healthcare strategy.

Today, as Chief Medical Officer at Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group, he brings extensive clinical and executive experience to one of Saudi Arabia’s major private healthcare organisations.

His professional journey reflects the increasing importance of physician leadership in connecting clinical quality with organisational development and healthcare transformation.

From Specialist Medicine to Institutional Leadership

Dr. Alkhadra’s professional foundation was established in cardiovascular medicine, with advanced training in internal medicine, cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology.

After earning his medical degree from King Abdulaziz University, he pursued specialist training in the United States, including clinical education at Harvard Medical School, Tufts University School of Medicine and Cleveland Clinic.

His training also encompassed heart failure and cardiac transplantation, providing experience across complex areas of cardiovascular care.

He subsequently held clinical and academic responsibilities at institutions including Prince Sultan Cardiac Center, King Fahad Medical City and King Abdulaziz University.

At Prince Sultan Cardiac Center, he served as Head of Cardiac Electrophysiology and Deputy Chairman of Medical Staff, combining specialist practice with departmental and institutional responsibilities.

These experiences established a foundation in clinical decision-making, multidisciplinary coordination and medical leadership.

Building Healthcare Quality and Operational Performance

In 2012, Dr. Alkhadra joined Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group, beginning a significant chapter in his executive career.

He subsequently became Medical Director of Takhassusi Hospital, a position he held from 2013 to 2021, while also serving as Chief of Cardiovascular Services.

His responsibilities extended across hospital operations, strategic planning, physician recruitment, quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.

One notable contribution involved the recruitment and retention of more than 200 Saudi physicians, supporting the development of clinical capability within the organisation.

His leadership also contributed to the hospital achieving more than 15 national and international accreditations, reaccreditations, certifications and centres of excellence recognitions.

In 2019, Takhassusi Hospital achieved the highest Essential Safety Requirements score from the Saudi Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI).

These outcomes reflect the importance of connecting clinical governance with workforce development and institutional performance.

Healthcare excellence depends on building systems where clinical expertise, patient safety and organisational accountability reinforce one another.

Contributing to Saudi Arabia’s Healthcare Transformation

Beyond hospital management, Dr. Alkhadra has contributed to national healthcare development.

Between 2021 and 2023, he served as Senior Consultant to Saudi Arabia’s Health Sector Transformation Program.

Within the programme, he held leadership responsibilities for two strategic areas: Healthcare Workforce Strategy and Integrated Care Strategy.

These priorities address fundamental questions about the future of healthcare delivery.

Workforce strategy concerns the availability, development and effective deployment of healthcare professionals. Integrated care focuses on improving coordination between services and creating a more connected patient experience.

His involvement brought together experience in clinical practice, hospital operations and institutional leadership within a wider healthcare policy environment.

The assignment also reflected his progression from managing clinical services to contributing to the strategic development of healthcare systems.

Leading Medical Strategy Across a Healthcare Group

In May 2025, Dr. Alkhadra assumed his current position as Chief Medical Officer at Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group.

The appointment followed his involvement as New Projects Commissioning Leader, a responsibility he has held since February 2023.

His professional background brings together the disciplines required for medical leadership across a growing healthcare organisation, including hospital commissioning, manpower planning, clinical quality, accreditation and operational oversight.

At group level, medical leadership requires a broader perspective than managing individual departments or facilities.

Clinical standards must be supported across different services, while workforce capabilities, patient safety and institutional priorities require coordinated attention.

Dr. Alkhadra’s experience in specialist medicine, hospital administration and healthcare strategy provides a foundation for these responsibilities.

Strengthening Professional Standards and Medical Leadership

Dr. Alkhadra’s contribution extends beyond his executive appointments.

He was Co-Founder and First President of the Saudi Heart Rhythm Society, serving from 2006 to 2010.

He also chaired the Higher Committee on Cardiac Centers Medical Services from 2006 to 2012, contributing to professional coordination within cardiovascular healthcare.

His academic experience includes serving as Assistant Professor of Medicine at King Abdulaziz University, alongside earlier teaching responsibilities at Tufts University School of Medicine.

His professional record also includes research publications covering cardiac electrophysiology, cardiovascular risk and heart failure.

Together, these responsibilities demonstrate sustained engagement with clinical education, research and professional development.

The lasting contribution of medical leadership is measured not only through individual clinical achievements, but through the standards and capabilities developed across healthcare institutions.
