Riyadh Almalik: Transforming Mobility Infrastructure and Corporate Governance Across Saudi Arabia

The Arab CEOs3 weeks ago

The evolution of modern economies relies fundamentally on the strength and efficiency of their mobility infrastructure. When consumer expectations shift and national economic agendas accelerate, roadside commerce and transit ecosystems must transition from basic public utilities into sophisticated, technology-enabled consumer environments. In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, this systemic shift required strategic reinvention, rigorous capital discipline, and institutional scale. Riyadh Almalik stands at the centre of this transformation, having built enterprise ecosystems that modernised national retail networks, scaled corporate governance, and created long-term enterprise value across the Kingdom’s private sector.

“Enduring organisations are not simply built for market expansion; they are engineered for institutional durability, operational resilience, and disciplined governance.”

The Strategic Architecture of Scale

Scale without institutional structure produces vulnerability, whereas disciplined strategy turns expansive operations into enduring market platforms. Throughout his tenure at the helm of the Saudi Automotive Services Company (SASCO), Almalik implemented an enterprise-wide model focused on sustainable revenue growth, operational visibility, and nationwide expansion. Guiding the organisation from an enterprise generating approximately SAR 188 million into a national powerhouse with revenues reaching SAR 11 billion, he demonstrated that corporate growth requires an equal balance of bold market expansion and rigorous fiscal management.

Under his executive direction, SASCO grew from 30 fuel stations to a network exceeding 700 stations across Saudi Arabia, establishing an interconnected footprint from border to border. This expansion went far beyond acquiring physical assets; it redefined retail branding, automated fuel distribution, and integrated modern digital payments across the network. By launching digital ecosystems, including a loyalty platform that scaled to 1.5 million users within its initial year, he transformed routine fuel stops into integrated, customer-centric retail journeys.

Diversification and Ecosystem Building

Sustainable leadership requires the foresight to identify complementary verticals and structure new commercial entities capable of compounding value. Almalik expanded SASCO from a traditional operator into a diversified corporate ecosystem by establishing purpose-built businesses tailored to emerging consumer trends.

With the establishment of SASCO PALM, he structured what rapidly developed into the Kingdom’s largest convenience store chain, expanding to 326 locations across critical urban nodes, including Riyadh Metro stations and national railway hubs. By centralising procurement, negotiating commercial credit terms, and aligning retail operations with digital loyalty platforms, PALM established a modern standard for mobility-adjacent retail.

In parallel, he established Ostool Alnaql to solve complex logistics and fuel transportation challenges. Scaling the enterprise to a commercial fleet of over 600 vehicles, he diversified its capabilities from fuel haulage into dry logistics, port transit, factory logistics, and temperature-controlled freight. This approach unified retail, infrastructure, and supply chain logistics into an interconnected ecosystem.

“True enterprise capability emerges when supply chain precision, consumer access, and operational technology align seamlessly.”

Governance, Listed Platforms, and Board Leadership

Corporate governance serves as the foundation of long-term economic resilience, ensuring accountability through market cycles and structural transitions. Beyond operational execution, Almalik has contributed significantly to boardrooms across the Kingdom, guiding listed enterprises through public offerings, portfolio strategies, and regulatory frameworks.

As Vice Chairman at Theeb Rent a Car, he supported the company’s transition to a public listing and oversees executive performance and governance frameworks as Chairman of the Nominations and Remuneration Committee for a company managing a fleet of 45,000 vehicles across 70 branches. Similarly, as Vice Chairman of Tadbeer Recruitment, he has spearheaded strategic modernisation, expanding enterprise workforce recruitment while structuring strategic roadmaps toward public market listing.

His leadership continues to focus on:

  • Institutional governance and public market compliance
  • Enterprise portfolio diversification and logistics scalability
  • Digital customer loyalty integration and retail automation
  • International industry representation and cross-border mobility agreements

International Representation and Policy Integration

Modern corporate leadership actively contributes to national development and international regulatory alignment. Serving as President and Vice Chairman of the Saudi Automobile Association (SATA), Almalik has represented the Kingdom within leading international automotive and mobility bodies, including the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the International Road Transport Union (IRU).

Through collaborative public-private partnerships, he oversaw the expansion of national transport instruments, including the introduction of the TIR customs transit system within Saudi Arabia alongside Saudi Customs. Serving as President of the National Committee for Gas Station Companies, he continues to shape sector-wide standards, policy dialogues, and operational benchmarks across the Kingdom’s mobility landscape.

“Leadership creates its greatest impact when private sector capabilities directly support national economic frameworks and global standards.”

Recognition by Arab CEOs

Riyadh Almalik is recognised by Arab CEOs for his decisive contributions to Saudi Arabia’s mobility, retail, and logistics sectors, alongside his disciplined stewardship of listed corporate entities. His track record illustrates how strategic clarity, institutional governance, and ecosystem development can elevate regional businesses into national market leaders that actively advance the Kingdom’s economic landscape.
