Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai has reiterated Google’s commitment to running its data centers entirely on carbon-free energy by 2030, even as the explosion of AI applications significantly increases energy consumption.
Google’s AI-driven products, from search to cloud services, now process billions of queries daily, requiring advanced infrastructure that consumes enormous amounts of power. Pichai acknowledged the paradox: while AI helps industries optimize energy usage, its own computational demand is intensifying the climate burden.
To address this, Google is investing heavily in advanced cooling systems, next-generation nuclear projects, and renewable energy sourcing. Pichai stressed that innovation must go hand in hand with sustainability, warning that without long-term planning, AI’s growth could undermine global climate goals.
